Custom apps and systems for larger businesses

When a company outgrows spreadsheets, shared inboxes and off-the-shelf tools, the answer is often a small, focused system that does one job properly. It can be an internal app, a portal for customers or suppliers, or a dashboard that finally shows the numbers in one place.

Spark Website Studio is a new studio and I am Joshua Webb, its founder. I work online only, over WhatsApp, email and video calls, for companies across South Africa. I do not have a team of developers behind me, so I take on work that one focused person can deliver well, and I tell you early if something needs more than that.

What I build for companies

Internal staff apps

Request forms, checklists, inspections, asset registers and similar tools that replace paper, email chains and spreadsheets, with a record of who did what and when.

Web portals

A secure place where customers, suppliers or branch managers log in to see their orders, documents, statuses or invoices, instead of phoning your office.

Dashboards and reports

One screen that pulls together sales, jobs, stock or service levels, so managers stop waiting for someone to assemble the monthly pack.

Approvals and workflows

A request moves from the person who raises it to the person who approves it, with notifications and an audit trail, instead of living in an inbox.

Connections between systems

Imports and exports, or an API link, between the new app and the accounting, stock or ERP package you already use.

Connecting to what you already use

I would rather add to your systems than ask you to replace them. Many packages can export reports as CSV or Excel files, and some offer an API that another program can talk to.

A good first step is a list of the systems involved and what each one can export or expose. From that, we can decide what the new app reads, what it writes back and what it should leave alone.

How I work with larger companies

Bigger projects need more structure, so the process is more formal than the one I use for a small business website.

  1. Discovery call

We talk through the problem, who uses the system, what it must connect to and what a good result looks like. I ask a lot of questions at this stage on purpose.

  2. Written scope and fixed quote

You receive a document that lists the screens, the rules, the integrations, what is excluded and the fixed quote. You can show it to colleagues and approve it internally.

  3. A working preview

Before the full build, I put the key screens in front of you so the people who will use the system can react to something real.

  4. Build and test

I build in stages, share progress and test with your data and your users, not only my own.

  5. Documentation and handover

You receive written documentation, a walkthrough for your team and clear instructions for access, backups and recovery.

  6. Support terms in writing

What is covered after launch, how fast I respond and what it costs are agreed in writing before you sign off.

Confidentiality and personal information

What to expect from a small studio

I am upfront about what I am: one person, working online. That means you deal directly with the person doing the work, and decisions are quick. It also means I will not take on a project that needs a large team, a physical presence on your premises or round-the-clock support, and I will tell you that at the start.

If you are not sure what kind of system you need, start smaller. A free preview of one screen or one workflow often shows quickly whether the idea is worth building. For ballpark figures, see the app section of the cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Can you work with our existing systems?

Where those systems can export data or offer an API, yes. Many accounting and ERP packages can export files or connect through an API, and a new app can read from them or send information back. I check what yours offers during discovery, before we agree a scope.

Will you sign an NDA?

Yes, on request. I am happy to sign your standard confidentiality agreement before you share anything sensitive, and to keep documents and data only in places we agree.

Is a fixed quote really fixed?

The written scope says exactly what is included. A fixed quote covers that scope. If you ask for something outside it, I tell you before doing any work, and we agree the change in writing.

How do you handle personal information?

With POPIA in mind. We agree what personal information the system holds, who can see it, where it is stored and how long it is kept, and I build the access rules to match. Your own legal advisers should still review your obligations.

next step

Start with a free preview and a written quote

You see a free preview before you pay anything, and you get a clear written quote before any work starts. Tell me what you need and I will reply on WhatsApp or email.
